2011 Crown Royale Box Break & Review

Design: Photobucket

This is a very generous rating.  My favorite element of ’11 Crown Royale are the Die Cut Patch cards that contain on-card autographs.  When you have a card that contains a large relic, many times you have to sacrifice the card’s overall design.  Having a die cut image of the player over the large relic helps maintain the card’s design.  I like the idea of having an all die cut base set, but some of the cards look busy.

Price: Photobucket

Boxes are currently selling for $94.00.

“Hit” Quality: Photobucket

There are (4) packs per box, each pack containing a “hit”.  Even though each pack has a “hit”, there are so many high-numbered plain colored jerseys.  I pulled the following:

Auto/Relic

  • Shane Vereen Die Cut 3-Color Patch Auto #’ed/299
Auto
  • Jordan Cameron RC Auto #’ed/499
Relic
  • Antonio Gates Calling All Captains Jersey #’ed/299
  • Ray Lewis Calling All Captains Jersey #’ed/299
Parallels
  • Mike Williams blue #’ed/100
Rookies
  • Lee Smith #156
  • Jay Finley #143
  • Stanley Havili #190
  • Evan Royster #132
  • Alex Green Crown Jewel Rookies #30
Other Notable Cards
  • Clyde Gates Rookie Royalty #18
  • Jan Stenerud Royalty #2
  • Brandon Lloyd Call All Captains #7
  • Reggie Wayne Kings of the NFL #2
  • Art Monk Living Legends #2
  • Percy Harvin The Zone #6
  • Billy Cundiff All-Pros #19
  • Bo Scaife Majestic #16
Overall: Photobucket
Overall, I give ’11 Crown Royale a generous 3 out of 5 crowns (1=poor & 5=perfect).  Panini has improved upon this product since last year.  The Die Cut Patch Autographs look fantastic.  Something else you can look for are the Net Fusion cards.  This is a 20-card set dedicated to kickers and contain a piece of net embedded within the card.  They look interesting and collectors seem to enjoy them.  Kickers don’t get that much love from the hobby and I think they should.  Pacific did similar sets called “Net Fusion” years ago, but they weren’t limited to kickers.
