“Pin-Up” of the Week: 2015 Oakley Little League Baseball World Series Player Pin

 photo 2015oakleyllbwspinpo_zpsf6slr3gw.jpg

The 2015 Little League World Series came to an end last Sunday.  Japan beat Red Land 18-11.  Everyone has gone home.  All the pins have been given out.  Although it wouldn’t surprise me if some of the businesses in Williamsport still have some pins available.  I think they tend to order a lot of them.  Dairy Queen still had pins leftover from last year.

Starting in 2014, Oakley began to make pins for the Little League World Series.  Those pins were specifically made for the players though.  The only way normal people could get one is to trade for it or buy one on eBay.  That pin can run $100.00+.  Oakley returned to the Little League World Series again this year.  This time they brought two different pins with them.  Players got the all silver colored pin pictured above.  More of the 2015 player pins have popped up for sale.  But they still can be expensive at around $50.00 – $150.00.  The other pin they gave out looks almost identical to the one the players got.  The main difference is that the “2015” is in red and blue.  I think they may have been given to the public through some type of promotion at the Oakley booth.  Even those weren’t easy to get.

Flashback Product of the Week: 1977 Topps Star Wars Series 1

 photo 1977starwarsseries1_zpspskq33hj.jpg

Tomorrow is “Force Friday”, which means a whole lot of new Star Wars merchandise hits the store shelves.  Most of this new stuff pertains to Star Wars: The Force Awakens which comes out on December 18, 2015.  I’ve been a big Star Wars fan for years, so I’m looking forward to seeing where they take the story from where it left off with Return of the Jedi.  Star Wars was the first series of films that I can remember watching that heavily relied on each other.  When Revenge of the Sith was released in 2005, I really thought that was it.  But here we are a little more than three months away from Episode 7.  Obviously these movies make tons of money, so it would almost be nuts if they didn’t keep the story going.

Topps and Star Wars have had a long relationship.  In 1977, Topps released their first set of Star Wars trading cards.  It is the first of five series they made for the first film.  Series 1 consists of (66) cards and (11) stickers.  As you can imagine, the cards feature photos of scenes from the movie.  Complete boxes of this stuff are in huge demand.  Collectors have been known to spend $1,000.00+ for a single box depending on it’s condition.

Topps continues to roll out Star Wars products.  Many of the autographs you pull from today’s Star Wars products are worth what a box of this stuff costs now.  One of the coolest Star Wars items Topps has rolled out is their digital card trader app.  It currently has 100k+ users, and fans have been spending quite a bit on the rarer digital cards.

There is a whole science when it comes to collecting Star Wars merchandise.  Collectors basically just want everything.  It wouldn’t surprise me if you have people in Target tomorrow asking if they can buy Star Wars stuff that isn’t for sale like the display stands.  If it has a Star Wars logo on it, they gotta have it.
